Port Elizabeth, South Africa
Thursday April 3rd we came to Port Elizabeth. We took the shuttle to the
Boardwalk, which mostly where a resort. Not really interesting, but those who stayed there till
the evening said the “lake” behind us turned in to a beautiful fountain. Daniel
was very clear that he wanted to see” the animals in Africa” so we just had to
find them…From the ships excursions there were several safaris on offer, but
they have been sold out since last December. Very popular, and some of them not
really suitable for small children as you are supposed to sit quiet in the car
without making a sound. Not going to happen with mine…
We talked with somebody who went on an overland Safari for three days,
and apparently it was amazing.
We got a tip about Seaview Lionpark, so we tried to get a taxi. It never
came, so then we hired a minibus with a group from the crew.
The drive to the Lionpark was about 25 km, and on the way we saw some of
the less nice areas. Not an easy life for many.
Inside the park, we could see zebra and a giraffe, among other animals.
It is really nice to see them when they are in their right environment.
We left the car and came
really close on the lions and tigers. Beautiful.
As we walked around, we stopped several times telling each other that it
smelled like a walk in the forest in Norway. Weird. Anyway, wildlife is for
sure very different between Norway and South Africa.
In the park there is possible to play with the cubs. When we were there,
however, it was closed since the weather had been bad just before, and the
animals were a bit stressed. We later heard that they had opened and that some
had a nice time getting close to the cubs.
This white lion however, got a
little bit too interested in Daniel for our taste. She followed his every move.
The white tiger in the background seemed to be more relaxed.
Instead of being the lunch, we went for lunch.
Next stop Cape Town.
