Mauritius

We came to Mauritius March 28th , and it was another  very warm day.

In a mysterious way I have managed to loose a box of contact lenses, so the first priority was to buy new ones.

We started where the shuttle took us, and Daniel and Anna wanted to feel the weight of the fruits. Daniels cast had just been removed, and we are happy to see that it seem to have healed very well.

We had a look around in the closest shopping area

We soon realized that if we should have any chance to find contacts we had to go into the city Port Louis.

City was crowded this day, as the people had  got their salary and were all eager to spend money.

The driver did what we had agreed upon, and took us too opticians.

After getting the same answer in 5 shops, that they did not have +, only – we were about to give up. In the 6th shop somebody had ordered but never picked up, so hurray, sometimes it is ok to feel lucky. Once that was sorted out, we went to have a look around the island.  Here the driver is explaining Ingvill that on one side of this hill you have mainly Christians, while the other side he called Gaza. He made a point of how well all religions are functioning together in a perfect co existence.

After  driving us around for a few hours, the driver more and more encouraged us to go shopping (which we really did not want to), and in the end he asked to be excused for 10 minutes and just went inside to pray.

Fine by us, but if we knew we would probably have gone shopping…

The next we wanted to do, was going to the beach. We had a look at a few, and the first two were not for us. Mauritius have been both a French and a British colony, and both languages are in use (we however felt that more speak French than English). We wanted to go to the beach, and looked at a few that was not the most suitable for children (and from the sign not really the best for adults either).

Third beach we came to was amazing, unfortunately I never managed to understand the name of it, but it was one of the nicest beaches I ever been to. Clean, soft sand, and the temperature of the water was so comfortable.

We stayed there for a few hours, playing, relaxing and making footprints in the sand.

We had a nice day, but even though Mauritius is famous for being great, many of us from the ship agreed that we have visited nicer destinations than this. Sometimes reputation is just better than reality.

Next port Reunion Island.
