Panama Canal Transit

Yesterday we went through the Panama Canal. The lock system is amazing, and there is really no more space than for the ship to pass.

Ships are waiting to pass. Sometimes for days, and it is not cheap. This ship paid quarter million pound…..and had to give 60 days’ notice on when she would be passing.

Between the locks we were gliding through the rainforest. In the water you have alligators, snakes and spiders….we didn`t see any of them….

At the last lock a crowd had gathered to see the ship. So here we were, taking pictures of them taking pictures of us…..and we could hear their “speaker” in English.

“This company pays us 4 million dollar a year to pass……” and the whole crowd was cheering……

And then…all the skyscrapers of Panama City revealed itself. Wonder if they have more high rises then Manhattan? Looks beautiful, and one day we would like to be back and explore this city.

Today we are at sea (Pacific Ocean now), and tomorrow we will be in Nicaragua.
