Aruba is a
former Dutch colony with four official languages (Dutch, English, Spanish and
one more that I did not get the name of).
Yesterday,
we spent a day at this beautiful island we all heard so many songs about. And
then, we were there. Sunny, lots of ships in the port and all the fancy clothes
and brands you can imagine; Gucci etc at one side of the street, and a souvenir
market on the other. A free street car went from the port and around the main
street. No schedule…and that is the first that comes to my mind…everything was
so relaxed. I spoke with a nice woman in a shoe shop, who said that in the last
5 years they only have had 3 murders, and very little crime. Traffic accidents
on the other hand was a different story…
Even their
license plate says “one happy island”
