Our next
stop in China was Xiamen, and we arrived there March 5. Climate is “warm and
subtropical” we read, but I can tell you that was not the case when we were
there. Anyway, we went with the shuttle to the center.
.
As soon as
we left the bus we were offered “Rolex” and other necessities…
We walked
up the shopping street, and the most special with the shops this day was that
they had more clothes for men. That`s not so often we have seen, but the
Chinese are not the tallest, so the sizes were not the easiest to find. Clean
nice walking street, where old and modern was presented hand in hand.
Countries
have different customs when it comes to food, and for sure the Chinese eat lots
of things we are not used to. Many people from the ship had delicious meals in
China, and we heard about one place where they ate frogs prepared in every
possible way. We leave that for those with more courage and stronger stomachs,
and went to the grocery to find the “healthy food” we are used to
Total price
for all of this was around 15 USD. Make us feel a bit ripped off when we
compare the prices with Norway, for the same products….
We walked
around for a while, and didn`t actually do anything special. When you travel
like this, seeing new countries and places we are aware that most of the places
have by far more to see than we can reach in a few hours, and you just can`t
see it all. Sometimes it is just nice to feel the atmosphere at the
destinations we are going to, stretch our legs after days at sea and simply do
nothing.
The Chinese
have recently celebrated their new year, and are this year entering the year of
the horse.
At the
port, it was a “duty free” market, where you could bargain of any kind of
electronic you can wish for, at prices you mostly set yourself if you are
lucky. Very different from Gardermoen…
We had a
nice day, and our next destination was Hong Kong.
