Another day
with bad weather, and it was tender boats to go ashore.
Vietnam, a
country with more than 85 million people that I mostly have heard about through
Hollywood movies like Platoon and Hamburger Hill, and when something is shown
on TV from here it’s still “old” news referring to the Vietnam war that ended
in the mid 70`s (This war is of course
referred to as the American war by the Vietnamese). I have also seen some
documentaries about Vietnamese boat refugees, and met a few as well. So what is
going on here today? I still don`t know, as Halong Bay is just a tiny place we
visited in the rain.
Price level
is very low. They have their own currency, but you can easily use USD. Here is
the market, where you can buy copies of almost “everything” for almost nothing.
They also sold postcard from sunnier days in Halong Bay, and it seems to be a
beautiful place, but in the fog…it is not.
Some more
modern buildings along the way, and a man with only one leg asking for money.
And like in
China, old and new side by side
We have in
total 3 stops in Vietnam, and I`m really looking forward to see more of this
country.
Next stop
Nha Trang.
